The 2022 Frankfurt Book Fair

Our outlook for the most important days of the year in the publishing industry

This year, countless visitors, exhibitors, and authors are converging on Frankfurt once again. After two years of an exceptional situation due to covid, the Book Fair will finally be held live once again in the exhibition halls from October 19 to 23. All major publishing houses will be there. Along with Spain, the guest of honor, there will also be a special focus on Ukraine. And you can be right there in the thick of things. We still have a few rooms available for the days the fair is open to the public.

¡Bienvenida, España!  Spain as the guest of honor

This year’s guest of honor is Spain. On two stages in the Guest of Honor Pavilion, there will be five days of readings and flamenco music, sophisticated culture from the Prado and tapas-style culinary delights. What is being published about Spain on the German-language book market? The Frankfurt Book Fair has compiled a current list of new publications. For all those who would like to take a peek ahead of time:

Public events and BOOKFEST city

As in previous years, the Frankfurt Book Fair will present a program packed with inspiration and exciting interactions in 2022. The on-site author readings are very popular with the Book Fair’s audience of readers and are always well attended. One of your favorite authors is bound to be there, seated on the Blue Sofa or up on ARD’s stage, at Bärbel Schäfer’s Book Talk or 3sat’s Buchzeit. At Bookfest city, the entire city becomes a stage. Crime story readings, talk shows, and author discussions will take place at various venues.

Details on Public events and BOOKFEST city

As the leading trade fair, the Frankfurt Book Fair enjoys a monopoly in the book industry. However, it is much more than a commercial venue: The fair represents a diverse society and plurality, and stands against any kind of discrimination. This foundation of values is certainly visible in our program of events this year: Many of our guests are stakeholders who seek answers to current political and social issues in their books.

Juergen Boos, Director of the Frankfurt Book Fair
